Pantone have released the only internationally available skin tone colour standard product that is based on measurement of actual human skin.

The PANTONE SkinTone™ Guide is a excellent new collection of 110 skin tone shades for inspiration and use in any application where a need exist to match a skin tone to a colour standard.

Created by scientifically measuring thousands of actual skin tones across the full spectrum of human skin types the PANTONE SkinTone™ Guide has been specially formulated to be the closest physical representations of skin colours.

It is acknowledged realistic skin tone colours are notoriously difficult to reproduce and this new product greatly aids in skin colour reproduction. These Guide is a comprehensive visual reference of human skin tones for use in any market where skin colours are relevant.

Each PANTONE SkinTone number is comprised of a four-digit alphanumeric number. The first two positions reflect the hue or undertone of the skin. The second two positions represent the tone or lightness and darkness of the skin.

Each guide comes with free download of Color Manager Software, where users can access digital values (CMYK, rgb).

All 110 colours are arranged by their value and undertone from light to dark moving through yellow to red undertone.

In between these two extremes of ‘Fair to Dark’ are four hue groupings that span the lightness-darkness range. Within each grouping there is a descending or ascending order of hues. As you descend from darkness to lightness, the hue descriptors change from 5R being the most Red through 1R being a Neutral Red and from 1Y Neutral Yellow through 5Y which is most Yellow.
